In February 2026, GlobeNexus Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Kyoto, Japan; CEO: Tadahisa Terao) launched StepUpp, a walking SNS app. This app aims to help users achieve health improvement while having fun with people worldwide through its pedometer + SNS features. It is compatible with iOS/Android and completely free to use.

Purpose and Background of the App Release

GlobeNexus Co., Ltd. developed StepUpp to promote healthy longevity by establishing the habit of “setting daily walking goals” as the world ages. Japan, in particular, has the world's fastest aging population. According to Cabinet Office data, the proportion of Japan's population aged 65 and over is projected to increase to 40% by around 2050. Furthermore, the health benefits of walking are already proven by data. According to the Tokyo Metropolitan Institute of Gerontology, walking 8,000 steps per day is effective in preventing hypertension, diabetes, arteriosclerosis, osteoporosis, and locomotive syndrome. Furthermore, a reseach from the National Cancer Center indicates that the higher the level of physical activity, the lower the risk of developing some form of cancer. StepUpp incorporates various features designed to facilitate behavioral change, such as “setting daily walking goals.” Through providing this app, we hope to contribute, even in a small way, to extending healthy life expectancy and reducing healthcare costs for people worldwide.

StepUpp features functionalities designed to encourage behavioral change through “setting daily walking goals.”

・Anonymous login feature: Enables participation without revealing personal information, respecting user privacy

・Automatic step tracking: Automatically retrieves step data from your smartphone using Health Connect API

・Step visualization: Simply visualizes step data on a daily (pie chart), weekly (bar graph), monthly (calendar), and yearly (line graph) basis. Choose from 7 colors (cyan/green/yellow/purple/red/pink/orange).

• Step Ranking Feature: Displays rankings within the StepUpp community based on daily step data
• Photo + Step Posting Feature: Post your best photo of the day with your step count and comments. Encouragement is provided through the Cheers button, allowing members to support each other within the StepUpp community
• Profile Feature: Share your profile publicly within the StepUpp community. You can also view other members' profiles

• News Feed Feature: Delivers the latest news and health information. As of February 2026, available in six languages: Japanese, English, Chinese, Spanish, Russian, and Indonesian (more languages to be added in the future).

Roadmap

We are not currently considering introducing a paid subscription model for individual users. In Japan, we plan to offer StepUpp as a health management solution for corporations and local governments, incorporating an administrator dashboard into the StepUpp app platform. Details will be announced separately.

Furthermore, health management initiatives are expanding beyond Japan to the international stage. In November 2024, the international standard ISO 25554:2024, incorporating the essence of health management, was published. We also aim to promote this health management initiative, a source of pride for Japan, internationally in the future as a countermeasure to the global challenge of declining birthrates and aging populations.
